REF # BRN3
Join us on a wonderful adventure to experience some of the best scenery southern Thailand has to offer. We slide our way through mangrove forests in motorized dinghy, sail an old Burmese junk and sleep in permanent tents waking to gibbon calls under towering limestone cliffs. We will also take to the jungle on foot to explore and learn about the jungle ecosystem and paddle canoes down stream on the Sok river.
Approx. 07.00hrs, pick up from your hotel and then transfer to Phang-Nga province passing small rural villages, rubber and oil palm plantations. Explore the rivers that cut through the mangrove forest by dinghy with outboard motor. Self paddle canoes with life jackets are available for those who wish to explore the smaller channels among the mangroves.
Emerging further along the coast meet up with our classical Burmese junk where a Thai lunch will be served. Drinks are available, as well as bathroom facilities on board. Spend the afternoon on a deserted beach, swim, relax or paddle canoes. Late afternoon is the time to transfer to Khao Sok.
Dinner and overnight in luxury safari tents (with comfortable beds), reading lights, hot water and western style toilets. The tents doors and windows have mosquito netting as well as canvas flaps so insects and reptiles cannot enter.
Wake up to the sounds of nature and birds calling from the jungle. After breakfast, visit the elephant camp, to see, touch and find out about the life of Thai elephants and about the elephant conservation project the company is running. Afterwards participate in the Elephant Experience, where you have the chance to interact with the elephants, preparing, feeding and bathing the animals. Returning from the jungle, you will appreciate the Thai buffet lunch that is served.
After lunch, take a canoe trip down the Sok river. Drift along the jungle river passing limestone mountains and cliffs covered with exotic tropical vegetation. Sometimes hornbill can be seen flying high overhead or reptiles basking in the sun on the riverbanks. From the canoe you can experience a world that has changed little in thousands of years. Dinner and overnight at Elephant Hills.
After a good nights rest, it’s time for wholesome breakfast before exploring the jungle on foot. Nothing compares to a walk in the jungle, an opportunity to explore the ecology of the rainforest, to see a great variety of exotic plants, tropical hardwood trees with huge buttress roots, orchids, palms, the variety is unlimited. Weather permitting lunch will be served in the rainforest cooked in bamboo, a tradition of jungle explorers of centuries past. In the afternoon it is time to return to Elephant Hills, then onward transfer to your hotel in Phuket or the Phuket airport approx. 17.30hrs.
Please wear non-slip shoes, loose comfortable clothes, bring a small bag or pack with a change of clothes in case you get wet and sun protection or a rain coat depending on the weather. If you want to swim in the river please bring swim wear and towel. Please note that the itinerary above depends on the local weather conditions.
